OK, for those who are having trouble downloading courses and loading them, I’ve come to the rescue! Listen, follow me, and learn in easy to follow commands how to download and install your downloaded courses. Once you’ve downloaded courses and go open your TW program to play fresh, new, in many cases better then EA, you’ll be so glad you did.
I cannot teach you how to use your PC for obvious reasons so there’ll be some things you’ll have to know. Do you know how to create a folder on your hard drive? If not, you need to buy Windows for Dummies because that is one thing you’ll need to learn. If you know how to create a folder using Windows Explorer then you are OK to proceed.
You also need to know how to download and install a program such as the utility needed to install the courses. If you can do these minor things, you are in business!
Utility:
You must have WINZIP installed on your computer. If you do not know what this is, please take a few minutes to visit the following site and download and install the utility: www.winzip.com
It is simply a program that un-zips (or inflates) a compressed file. All of the downloads you will be saving are “zipped” (or compacted) to make the files smaller. Therefore when you download a course, you are downloading several files that are packed into one. It’s called a ZIP file. You don’t have to worry about how to use WINZIP, unless you choose to, because the next utility you need will do it for you. CLSetup, the program that installs your courses and libraries, works with WINZIP to extract the files you have downloaded. Now, there are FREE “ZIP/UNZIP” programs out there such as you’d find at www.download.com (not the course site) but I cannot guarantee they will run with CLSetup. Perhaps another member can speak to that.
On with the Downloads:
The vast majority of the time, it is the libraries that really confuse people. Not just the libraries but where to put them. The real good news is that there is an easy to use Utility that does all that for you, but there are some critical things you need to know first.
The first thing you need to do is Create a Folder called TWCourses or something like that where you can place the courses that you download. Remember it well, it’s where all your courses/libraries will need to go.
Now, there is only one download site that I feel is worthy and necessary for you to use for getting the Utility and Courses, coursedownloads.com.
You do have to register for this site but it is free. Once you are registered and logged in, bookmark the site. This should prevent you from having to sign in every time you visit the site. Once logged in, you can download files.
When you get to coursesdownload.com you will see a series of Tabs across the top. Click on the tab that says Utilities. When the page appears, scroll down and you will see, Course and Library Installation Tools. Click on that and scroll down to see, CL Setup 2k7.
Click ON the CL SETUP 2k7 and a download applet appears. Click on Download then Click on Save. Important: When the “Save as” window appears, make sure to save this file and all your courses to the TWCourses folder you have already created in the first step. You can select it on the applet called Save as. There’s a pull down arrow o set your folder if it is not already on the right folder. Once you have downloaded the Utility you can then go to that folder and Run the program to install the CLSetup Utility. During the install, tell it to make a folder on your desktop so you can open it any time you want. Once you install the CL Setup Utility, you are now ready to start getting courses.
Now go to the web coursedownloads.com and on the main page, on the left is: Courses Downloads. Click on Tiger Woods 2007 to get to the courses for 07. As you scroll down you’ll see the newest courses that have been uploaded. You will see Tabs at the Top that say: New Releases, Most Downloads, Most Visits, By Name, Real Courses and Search. I recommend you start with the most downloaded courses since they’re the ones most people have. You can however, download in any order you like. But, let’s start by clicking on Most Downloads. There you will see as you scroll down that Augusta National 2007 is by far the most downloaded course, as it should be. Click on the blue title and scroll down. You will see a series of files ready to be downloaded and already checked. These are the course and library files needed for that course, on the right. Now this part is important: Augusta happens to be one of those courses that exceeds the maximum file size for a single download, therefore you will have to download it in two parts! Don’t panic, this is easy. Follow me:
Where the course files are checked, uncheck the bottom six files. From Pebble Beach 2006 down to Augusta Structures. Now click on Create MYZipfile. Now it will take you to the next page and when you scroll down you will see it is compressing, or has compressed the files. It will start downloading automatically (rare) or it will show your sign-on name and say: “If your download doesn’t start immediately, click here:” You will see a blue link saying Download MYZip file (62.03MB). Click on this link! Now, Click on Save.
Now, this Save As Applet is where you tell it to save to a folder and you need to name the file. Look up top in the Save as applet to make sure you are downloading to the folder you created earlier, just like with the CL Setup, you want to make sure you are placing this file into the TWCourses folder you created earlier. Next to “Save In” your TWCourses Folder should be there or you need to put it there.
Now look down where the file name is and most likely it will have the file named 15738.zip. Just simply change the name to augusta1.zip! Name it 1 (one) because you need to go back and get those six other libraries you couldn’t fit in this 1st download. The download will begin and the next step is simple. As the file is downloading, don’t close the coursedownloads.com page, keep it open. That way, after your download is completed, you can just Page Back one spot to where you were before. Where those files are that you unchecked before. Now you want to download those files, so uncheck the top 3 files and check the bottom 6 which are the ones you don’t have yet. Now click on Create MyZipFile again and once again it takes you to the download page where it compresses your files. Scroll down and once again click on the Blue Link (it might take 30 seconds or more to compress the file). Your “Save As” applet appears and you now want to name this file augusta2.zip! It should always say the same file name 15738.zip (unless it’s just one library you’re downloading) which is why you want to change it to a name you clearly recognize. Click Save and you now are downloading the 2nd half of the course.
Now comes the installation part. But before you do, let me point out an important useful fact about these courses and libraries: Many of the libraries used in the courses you download are already on your TW07 program, so you only really need to download the libraries that are not already there. Don’t worry about that now though because you need to accumulate many courses before you start to duplicate libraries. Also, most courses are not like Augusta and can be downloaded in one part.
Always remember to name the files you download after the actual course, such as TheBelfry.zip or Medinah3.zip. That way when you use CL Setup to install the course, you will know exactly which file is which.
Once you have installed several courses, you will start recognizing certain common libraries such as, “Judds Walls N Stuff.” When you begin to recognize libraries you know you already have, you can begin to uncheck them when you go to download courses. It makes the files smaller each time you uncheck a library. And remember, once that library is loaded, you don’t need it again. Designers tend to use common libraries. Ok, now let’s install.
The Install of Augusta. It’s so easy now that you have CL Setup and the course files! Once you’ve done this a few times, it will take less and less time to load a course. I can download and install a course in under 3 minutes… no joke!
Open CLSetup and you’ll see Tiger on the main page. Now, under File on the Menu Bar, go to Open Installation Archive. An applet appears named Open Installation Archive. Now up top where it says “Look in” you need to have the TWCourses folder you created before so that your augusta1.zip and augusta2.zip appear in the window. Now when you see the 2 files, hold down the CTRL key and click on augusta1 and augusta2 to highlight both files. (on single file courses it’s only one file) Now click Open. A gray bar (applet) appears that says Choose Installation Folder. Your game root path should automatically be there so just click OK. A question applet appears with information about the file and will ask, OK to proceed with installation? Say Yes! If the library or course file is already loaded it will inform you that the library is already on your system and installation will not proceed. Just say OK, it’s no big deal! If it come up “Installation not complete” or “Installation Complete” click OK. Another gray applet appears and another and another until all are installed. Just say OK to every one. When you have completed every file you are done and the course is installed! That’s it!
Important post install information: Now, let’s say you downloaded a course and didn’t get every library. If there are any missing files that are necessary you get a report sheet from CLSetup saying what files are missing. It will ask you if you want a report. If so, say YES. This will give you a page of the precise files that are missing. You can then go to coursedownloads.com and get those individual files. These files are installed the same way as the courses, Open Installation Archive, highlight the file and select Open. Then say OK and it CLSetup will install the missing file. Now your course is ready to play! This should not happen often, but there will be time you need a specific library to complete an installation. Another note on CLSetup. Under Options/Properties you can tell it what folder to open every time you visit, such as you TWCourses folder. You can also tell it where your game is should it be confused. Remember, only really large courses require that you download in two parts.
If you’ve followed these instructions you should be ready to play Augusta and go and download as many courses as you want. The process is the same except most courses aren’t so large as to require 2 downloads, but some do! So now you know how, go get’em!
If you have any comments that might help simplify my post, please note them here. Slimbee may have something to add as well.
Enjoy! (See my course reviews, new one coming soon!)
