Let me put the topic of irony to rest once and for all... unless there is someone out there who truly thinks they have a more ironic anecdote than mine...
In my younger days I was a jock. I played every sport imaginable and played both baseball and soccer (I was a goalie) in college... I was also rather injury prone. My left knee needed surgery twice while I was still in high school, and my right ankle had been twisted and sprained so many times that half of the ligaments were no longer attached. Eventually, a small tumor started eating away a bone in that ankle. At the age of 21 I had the tumor cut out and a complete ankle reconstruction. All tolled, between the ages of 15 and 21, I spent a total of close to 18 months in casts, on crutches or in rehab and recovery mode... and usually in some kind of pain or discomfort. At 21, it was all behind me. My knee was completely recovered, and my ankle surgery left it as good as new. Both of my legs were in PERFECT shape. I could walk, run and do anything I wanted without worry, and I was completely pain free. You can't imagine how wonderful it was to stand securely on two perfectly healthy, strong legs...
About six months later I broke my neck...
Now I can't stand up at all.
IRONY!!!... beat that, lol.
I truly hope I'm not the only one who laughs at this story... 'cuz I think it's pretty fookin' funny. Then again, I have a pretty odd sense of humor.
Here's to Tiger Woods golf... because if I tried playing any of these courses in the real world, I'd get booted off for driving my cart onto the greens.
